FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Brownie's Marine Group, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: "BWMG." www.browniesmarinegroup.com) today announced that its patented technology has now been integrated into the Kon Tiki Royal US "KTR-US" lifejacket and has successfully met, and exceeded, standards codified in the new MSC 200 (80) SOLAS regulations. Of all the international conventions dealing with maritime safety, the most important is the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, better known as SOLAS (http://www.imo.org/).
The new standards that went into full effect in July 2010, apply to life jackets stored on board many newly-built, charter, passenger and cruise ships in the world. The extensive tests on these lifejackets were carried out by Underwriter Laboratories of North Carolina, USA. Brownie's Marine Group is the exclusive US distributor and patent holder for this broad reaching technology. The KTR-US exceeds the requirements of the previous regulations considerably in terms of buoyancy and turning power across a broader range of body types. Comfort and stowage dimensions were two additional critical considerations in the design and acceptability of the KTR-US.
Robert Carmichael, Brownie's Chairman and CEO stated, "We are committed to developing products that keep people safe on the water. Our technological advances combined with the other feature advantages of the Kon Tiki Royal US design, are really a winner for the wearer. In addition to the regulated usage, we intend to aggressively promote this device into the leisure boating and yachting market as a smarter alternative to the minimum standard devices required for private boat owners. We believe that the current life jacket market in this category approximates a $25,000,000 industry. Having exclusive distribution rights for the first dual approved vest gives us a major competitive advantage and will be a key catalyst in our goal of returning to profitability."
